Squeeze every penny!

by admin on February 12, 2009

In these tough times we are facing (economically speaking) it is important that we not only watch our finances closely but that we make the most of every penny! Let’s face it, we as Americans, still need our vacations. And most of us are going to take them, we’ll be a bit smarter about where we go and how we spend the money but we are going to get away for a bit. For most of us in the winter months this means a ski vacation. So how can we make the most of our dollar – well here’s something to think of. Have you ever wondered how much of your time you are wasting getting ski rentals? At the price of tickets these days it’s quite a bit of money. Say you have 5 people in your family – each of you paying $90+ a day for a lift ticket, now think back to the last time you were in a rental shop, how long did you wait 1/2 hr, 1hr, 1 1/2? Let’s say it takes the family an hour to get fitted. There are roughly 7 hours you can ski in a day, now you have six. You have effectively lost 5 hours of skiing (1 hr/person) That’s roughly $65 dollars you have wasted – not to mention any ski time you lose returning the gear. Want a solution? Try an aspen ski shop that delivers! They will deliver till late at night or first thing in the morning, before many other shops open – oh and the big thing, no waiting in line, they are only there for you!

X-Games!!! Now till 2012

by admin on February 3, 2009

img 0660 224x300 X Games!!! Now till 2012What a great weekend.  I was able to stop by Aspen Snowmass area and check out the crazyness that is the X-Games!  I made quite a day of it too.  Since most of the big events didn’t start till after 4 I was able to get out and do some skiing beforehand.  I got my equipment from a great local Aspen Ski Shop and hit the slopes!  The skiing was great – snow was falling the entire time I was there which meant the skiing just got better!  It made for a cool X- Games as well.  There were a lot of suprises in who won what and especially when Levi Lavallee did a double back flip on a 400 lb+ snowmobile!  Tons of people, tons of good snow, lots of great tricks and flips!  I look forward to the games next year and getting great aspen ski rentals!

Find Your Level

by admin on January 30, 2009

At Aspen there is a way to tell what type of skier you are. It is important in the ski school so you can be grouped with the right people. There is a system set up into 9 different levels. Three of them are green, which will guide you through the basics and get you set to advance to a green blue level which is also a 4 or 5 on the scale. By level six it is determined that you are an intermediate and are pretty comfortable with blue ski terrain. Level 7 is where you push yourself into a black and blue skier beginning to hit the steeps. By 8 and 9 you are developing very well and are just looking for those small minute critiques, that will get you to be really good and love all the terrain. So get those skis together and give the best Aspen Ski Shop a call to advance your skiing ability!

riley skiing Highlands Bowl

Skiing Highlands Bowl

After stopping at a great Aspen Ski Shop, it was time to hit the Highlands Bowl. Powder? Yes and lots of it.  Light, fluffy, cold, fresh tracks….yep that is why I ski.  My Fischer skis, camera and buddy hit the ridge for a good 1/2 hr hike and then dropped Highlands Bowl with face shots all the way down. Then we took a few turns inbounds before hitting Highlands Pizza Company for some great pizza (highly recommended) and of course a few beers….ahhh another great day in Aspen, Colorado!

Free Live Music in January

by admin on January 7, 2009

If you’re in town on January 23rd or 24th make sure you check out the free Budlight Hi Fi concerts hosted at Aspen! Theres nothing better than an epic day of skiing followed by a long night of  live tunes and some ice cold beer. These concerts are corresponding with Winter X, so there will be plenty of spectacles to see and people to meet. The Flobots will be starting things off on the 23rd at 53o, and Pennywise will be taking over the stage the following night, same time. Take advantage of a funfilled weekend.

More information about Aspen, Colorado Skiing

There is a historic character to the city of Aspen, Colorado. At the same time, in stark contrast to its historic character, the city has emerged into international fame as a glitzy playground of the wealthy and famous. The downtown has been largely transformed into an upscale shopping district that includes high-end restaurants, salons, and boutiques. The real-estate market has forced the city to struggle between permitting growth and restricting it. The city today remains a mix of high-end luxury homes and condos intermixed with legacy residences populated by an old guard of Aspen residents struggling to maintain the unique character of the city. Aspen has become a second and third home to many international jet setters.
