More information about Aspen, Colorado Skiing

There is a historic character to the city of Aspen, Colorado. At the same time, in stark contrast to its historic character, the city has emerged into international fame as a glitzy playground of the wealthy and famous. The downtown has been largely transformed into an upscale shopping district that includes high-end restaurants, salons, and boutiques. The real-estate market has forced the city to struggle between permitting growth and restricting it. The city today remains a mix of high-end luxury homes and condos intermixed with legacy residences populated by an old guard of Aspen residents struggling to maintain the unique character of the city. Aspen has become a second and third home to many international jet setters.

Summer at Aspen Ski Shops

by admin on June 3, 2010

Summer sure feels like it is here – sun is shining, birds are chirping, and the sprinklers are on in everyones yard.  Got to have a green lawn, even though we live in a high desert. The local Aspen ski shops have become aspen bike shops, although if you really want to talk skis and snowboards I’m sure you could find someone to do so.  The bike trails have almost completely dried out and they should be opening the gondola at Aspen Mountain and Snowmass Mountain’s shortly.  My brother and his girlfriend have been working the trails pretty hard since the beginning of May.  If you don’t have a bike or would like to try something different make sure to get into one of the ski shops aspen and ask for some aspen ski rentals, sorry I mean bike rentals.

Aspen Ski Rentals key to next year

by admin on May 25, 2010

As the economic recovery remains uncertain and any extra cash in your pocket is great it makes it difficult to justify buying that $1000 pair of skis, even though they are nice and wide, and rockered, and have sweet graphics.  It wouldn’t be as big an issue if you skied more than 5 days a year.  Well you don’t have deprive yourself of this new technology, when you go on vacation call up your local aspen ski shop and they will no doubt have what you are looking for to rent.  It will be all waxed, tuned and ready to go for you.  The aspen ski rentals will make your vacation that much easier and will not nearly dent your wallet like buying these skis would be.

Useful Reminder: Safety First

by admin on March 6, 2010

Ajax (Aspen Mountain) is definitely an advanced skiers mountain, and even those skiers with experience know that accidents happen. Even with all the tools and training, snow-packs are unpredictable, and avalanches are a common occurrence, especially after the type of winter we’ve had here in our little slice of paradise. Talk in the ski rental shops Aspen, CO as of late has been about skiers and snowboarders ducking lines to go after back country terrain, and either becoming lost or caught in an avalanche, resulting in the parties requiring rescue. In any case, people sometimes forget that those Ski Patrol and Response Teams and police aren’t impervious to harm, and they too are putting a lot on the line to come to your aid. Before setting out on a long day of freestyle riding, gather the correct equipment and information. Aspen, CO ski shops are a great place to get some tips on the conditions on the mountain, and what equipment to use. Don’t put yourself or others in harm’s way.

New snow in Aspen

by admin on March 1, 2010

Aspen Snowmass just saw a ton of snow come down. It had been a while since we had seen substantial snow and it got everyone really excited. The lines out the local Aspen Ski Shops were very long, everyone was trying to get big fat powder skis for the 24-30 inches that fell.

We all had a great day out there, skiing in waist deep powder is something that everyone should do once in a lifetime and it got everyone talking at the shops when they returned their aspen ski rentals

X Games Madness in Aspen

by admin on February 1, 2010

How do these guys and gals continue to up the anty when it comes to the tricks they do.  Levi Lavalle almost taking a snowmobile on the lap, Shaun White taking a bite out of the top of the half pipe, these guys are nuts, trying to drive the sport further at incredible speeds.  The games replayed on all the local aspen ski shops and will be continued to be talked about in the aspen ski rental lines.  And why shouldn’t they be, it was incredible.  Friday night brought over 20,000 people to town.

Could this be the storm?  Is this the beginning of the winter season?  Two weeks ago there was a week of snow, nothing much stuck.  The following two weeks brought warm and mild weather which wiped out all snow below 9500 feet.  This was good though, the ground had not had a chance to freeze up so come march it would have melted very quickly.  We are due for snow the next couple of nights.  It has gotten colder out and the ground is hardening up and of course the womens world cup is coming to Aspen, which always means snow.  Just take a look at the downtown Aspen Ski shops, you’ll see them preparing for the impending snow!

Fastest women in the world!

by admin on November 4, 2009

Aspen will once again host the Winternational, the women’s world cup.  It all starts on Nov 28th and no they probably won’t be racing on local aspen ski rentals from local aspen ski shops.  These are finely tuned athletes on finely tuned equipment.  Traditionally Aspen has gotten it’s first big dump of snow during the weekend of racing.  I know the last three years we have gotten from 2 – 4 feet every year.  The athletes love it because they get fresh tracks on one of the greatest mountains in the west.  I can’t wait, not only to see these women haul butt down Ajax mountain and to ski in some fresh powder!

Snow, snow and more snow! Last week was a complete whiteout. It snowed off and on from Tuesday to Friday. The front range of Colorado seemed to get more snow than Aspen Snowmass. Which is normal for this time of year, once El Nino or La nina, which ever it is kicks in those systems get pushed to dump all their snow right over the high rockies. And we reap the benefits. So what you going to ski this year? It won’t be too long before we are skiing in Aspen, they are already skiing in Loveland and some of the front range mountains. I would get into an aspen ski shop and take a look at what is available. When the season opens you can also always head back in and get some aspen ski rentals to try stuff.

We have had a couple Indian Summers so far this fall. One week it was snowing everywhere, including in town, this past week was beautiful and in the mid 60’s. I guess that weather pattern is an Aspen signature. I heard someone say out of 365 days, 300 are sunny. The past couple years though we have had more snowy days -which is fine with me I got good use out of my aspen ski rental equipment. This winter is looking to be another good snow season. I am a huge fan of skiing on blue-bird days but I am also a fan of skiing in snowstorms, where everytime you ski a run you can’t see your tracks from before. There is buzz about the upcoming ski season coming out of every aspen ski shop, just stop and listen in. It’s going to be a good year.
